Groundschool – Theory of Flight

An electronic flight instrument system [EFIS] is a system of graphically presented displays with underlying sensors, electronic circuitry and software; replacing all mechanical flight instruments and gauges with a single unit. This EFIS-D10A liquid crystal Primary Flight Display [PFD] from Dynon Avionics [ dynonavionics.com ] has 15 solid-state sensors including accelerometers, pressure transducers, temperature sensors, gyros, and magnetometers with optional outside air temperature probe and AOA pitot head. It is a non-certified VFR-only instrument, economically suitable for amateur-built aircraft.

For further information on the state of play in 2004 read the article 'Glass cockpits under the lens' in the January - February 2004 issue of the online version of CASA's magazine Flight Safety Australia
